SAFETY AND SECURITY: Recently, a series of bombings and shootouts have occurred in public places in Sofia. It is believed that these represent turf wars among organized crime groups. These groups often travel in convoys of late-model SUVs and luxury sedans, accompanied by armed men. Travelers should use caution when near such groups.
