OTHER HEALTH INFORMATION: Travelers to the capital city of Bogota may require some time to adjust to the altitude (8,600 feet), which can affect blood pressure, digestion, and energy level. Persons with medical conditions related to the circulatory or respiratory system should ask their physician if travel to Bogota or other high-altitude locations is advisable.

In January 2004, a yellow fever epidemic occurred in Colombia's northern provinces that resulted in a number of deaths. Yellow fever is present in Colombia and epidemics can occur at any time. Yellow Fever vaccine is not required for entry into Colombia, but it is highly recommended by the government of Colombia and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for all travelers older than 9 months of age, especially if travel involves areas at altitudes below 2624 feet (800 M) either on the Caribbean or Amazonian side of highlands.
