Hannover Airport, or HAJ, is unofficially named Langenhagen Airport by residents of the area. The airport is a very short distance from the town of Langenhagen. Hannover Airport first opened its doors in 1952. It replaced an airfield situated within the city that dated back to the early part of the century. In 1973 two new terminals were built. There is a range of major airlines and no-frills airlines at HAJ. The most notable budget line is TUIfly, which uses HAJ as its primary hub.
